The 5K led participants, all dressed up as jolly Saint Nick, through the streets of Pacific Beach
Thousands of runners dressed up as Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus, elves, reindeer and even a few Grinches dashed through the streets of Pacific Beach on Saturday in the largest Santa Run held in the coastal San Diego neighborhood to date.
The first runners to cross the 5K finish line Saturday were Sid and Ashton Smith, a father and son duo from Rancho Peñasquitos. Since his son’s cerebral palsy prohibits him from participating in races on foot, Sid Smith runs with him while pushing his racing wheelchair. Along with Ainsley’s Angels, the Smiths and members of Team Hoyt were the first wave of runners to start Saturday’s race. Because many runners from the two groups use or push wheelchairs, starting first allows the families to run without getting tangled up in the crowd as the race begins.in first place with an overall time of 15 minutes and 42 seconds from start to finish.
