More than 10,000 families in the UK are to get extra help over the summer holidays – in the form of £75 worth of shopping vouchers. Low-income and struggling families are to get the cash boost as part of the Household Support Fund .
£3m worth of funding The £75 help is being given out to residents of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, who will be in line for vouchers to help with the additional cost of food in the school holidays. What help is being given out in Wakefield? Families with school-aged children in need of extra financial help will be given £75 worth of supermarket vouchers to tide them over during the summer holidays.Its portion of the HSF will be used to provide supermarket vouchers for those most in need.
‘It will provide targeted support to some and importantly, also allow other residents experiencing financial hardship to receive assistance.’ Around 2,600 other residents on low income are also expected to receive the vouchers along with 7,700 people on disability benefit. When is the help expected? The financial assistance will be given to eligible families in time for the six-week summer holidays.But the funding is available for six months, between 1 April 2024 and 30 September 2024.
