🔴 Tens of thousands of bipolar patients are attempting suicide due to average delays of 10 years in getting a diagnosis, a landmark study has found

has today taken “urgent recommendations” to the House of Commons calling for an immediate restructure to readdress what it calls systemic flaws that are putting people at extreme risk.

Guy Goodwin, emeritus professor of psychiatry at the University of Oxford and co-chair of The Bipolar Commission, said: “The findings of the Bipolar Commission have shocked me out of my complacency. People with bipolar should be very angry about the policy failures of the past two decades.”– 30 per cent more than those with dementia and twice as many as those with schizophrenia. Millions more are impacted through close friends and family.

Once diagnosed, experts from the bipolar community advocate appointing a new National Clinical Director of Mood Disorders to ensure that everyone with bipolar has access to a 12-week psychoeducation course and a clinician who specialises in bipolar to oversee all prescriptions, medication changes and on-going care.
