Thousands of people braved the cold last night to join a near four-mile long queue to reach the Queen’s coffin in Westminster Hall. As temperatures dropped to 7°C overnight, ‘the Queue’ still snaked its way through central London.

Tatie Kirst, 38, of Canada Water in south-east London, a project manager who had just joined the queue in Southwark Park, said: ‘Well, it’s a journey right?

Around 2,000 volunteers have offered their medical support with the late monarch’s lying in state and funeral. She added: ‘Try to keep your feet dry as this will help maintain your core temperature. For those waiting overnight, it is starting to get chilly, so wrap up warm. Consider bringing multiple thin and thermal layers rather than heavy, bulky jumpers as these can draw heat away from your body.’An artist paints a picture as history unfolds in front of him ‘Make sure to bring plenty of food and water to keep yourself hydrated.
