The scholarship also includes the entry fee for a 5K or 10K of the recipient’s choice. “They don’t have to do a race,” Wolff said, “but we include that because a lot of new runners don’t sign up because they’re too scared.” Wolff thinks that many new runners find the accountability andof signing up for a race helpful, both for sticking with their training and for mental-health benefits.
Wolff is eager to award more scholarships and says Still I Run could currently fund another 30. Recipients can live anywhere. Of the first four, one is local to western Michigan, and one lives in each of Massachusetts, Colorado, and Connecticut. The scholarships are funded largely by other Still I Run programs, including a mile-a-day run/walk streak in May, which is Mental Health Awareness Month.
