In the mid-twentieth century, many older buildings in downtown Toronto were being demolished to make room for newer high rises and office towers. The Clarks saw an opportunity to preserve buildings that might have otherwise been lost to time and memory. Spencer Clark seized upon the opportunity to restore a portion of the building’s facade, and hired architectIt has been used as an open-air theatre for a variety of productions since its construction in the 1980s.was the tallest building in the city at the time of its construction in 1896. Its twelve-story construction towered over the street corners of Bay and Richmond., the building was demolished in 1970 to make way for the new Queen and Bay centre.
