The Richardson City Council District Boundary Commission has made a final recommendation for revising council district boundaries.
A public hearing on the recommendation is set for April 25 during the City Council meeting, the city stated in, which will be the last time the public will have a chance to weigh in on the recommended boundaries.
Richardson’s city charter requires a review of the city council district boundaries by a boundary commission every 10 years, after a Census has been completed. It also requires that the population among city council districts is approximately equal. During a public hearing on March 22, the nine-member commission presented two possible options. The commission has recommended option A for the new district boundaries.
The reasons for choosing that option, according to a city release, included that the districts are within 10% of the ideal size, they have definable geographic boundaries such as highways, it avoids placing current council members in the same district and that it avoids splitting neighborhoods. The city council appointed the commission in January to study the boundaries. Public input was also considered.
