''This is really scaring me': Mum's desperate three-year fight to save kids from 'nightmare' mould
A mum is ‘really scared’ for the safety of her family due to a 'nightmare' mould issue at a property managed by Rochdale Boroughwide Housing .
However, the mum remains ‘really scared’ for the safety of her children following an MEN investigation bringing the tragedy of two-year-old Awaab Ishak to light. The tot died due to mould exposure in another RBH property, on the Freehold estate, after his father repeatedly complained to the organisation.
The mum says mould first appeared in 2019, and a visit by an inspector towards the end of that year recommended two positive input ventilation units be installed, in the attic and bedroom. Due to other circumstances, the mum says her ability to chase up repairs had to take a back seat during most of 2021, when the situation appears to have been under control. However, the family say it did not stay that way.
“It came back aggressively. It’s back with a vengeance. They were slow. They would come out, wipe it, and treat it very quickly. So long as they could say they did something within 20/30 minutes, they would go. It would come back in a week. That happened over three months.” “The next day I thought ‘I need to find out what’s going on’. I do not know why, I pulled the drawers out. It was full of furry mould.Another reported issue at the home is a lack of cavity wall, which has been identified as an area for repair by RBH. The housing association says it is in the process of arranging for it to be refilled, and scheduling delivery of the second PIV.
