'This is a renaissance period': Calgary's Tom Jackson joins NCM Indigenous exhibit, Speak Up! yyc

Jackson’s guitar will join other artifacts from Canadian artists. That includes Inuk artist and activist Elisapie, who highlights northern Arctic Inuit culture through her music; veteran Metis folk singer-songwriter Ferron, an influential artist who has been recording since 1977; second-generation Cree and Salish musician Fawn Wood, who won the Juno for Traditional Indigenous Artist or Group of the year in 2022; and hip-hop performer Drezus, a founding member of Team Rezofficial.

“It’s an indication that Indigenous artists and maybe Indigenous culture in itself is in a renaissance period,” he says. “I think there is a real open book or canvas, if you will, that has yet to be painted.
