If there was any question as to who the Houston Post was supporting in the 1955 election for Houston mayor, this pro-Oscar Holcombe front page from 1955 pretty much clears it up.

If there was any question as to who the Houston Post was supporting in the 1955 election for Houston mayor, this front page from 1955 pretty much clears it up.

"Mayor [Roy] Hofheinz' record is one of chaotic bickering which has damaged the city's prestige and hindered its progress," the Post's editorial board wrote in a front-page editorial."He has resorted to mudslinging and wild charges. He has dug up the molded bones of ancient political scandals and rattled them incessantly."

Oscar Holcombe, looking to be elected to an office he held four times since 1921,"promises a clean, closed town and a resumption of Houston's forward march," the Post wrote. This all came as Houston's three daily newspapers turned down a scathing full-page ad from Hofheinz that took on Houston's"fat cats," including the Chronicle and Post.* See the main photo on that front page? The one of Kenneth Rogers at San Felipe Courts? After doing some quick searching, I don't believe that's the Kenny Rogers. This teen was identified as being 13 in this photo while Kenny Rogers, born in 1938, would have been a little older.
