A Third Ward community says they want more solutions to a growing, deadly nuisance.

Lightfoot is the community outreach director for Generation One, a non-profit helping to prepare children in the Cuney Homes for Kindergarten.Lightfoot says she’s uncomfortable going around Scott Food Mart on Winbern and Tierwester Street. On Tuesday, one man was found shot and another was found injured outside the store.

“I think it’s a hub for not only crime, but drugs, drug trafficking all of those things,” Lightfoot said.Evans-Shabazz says she’s going to contact Houston police to make sure there’s an alert on this area— meaning more patrols.“It’s going to be something perhaps with the food bank,” she added. “We can help them get not just fresh food, but free food.”
