“It’s in my blood, and I just love hearing the stories about the Canada Games and the experiences they had, and I’m excited to carry on the torch. Maybe there might be a fourth generation? You never know.”The family connection of the 16-year-old son of Thane and Colette MacEwen may not even be the most intriguing part of Jakob’s story. Jakob was diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic at age seven, but he refused to allow it to impact his dreams.

Contributed - ContributedJakob said dealing with the diabetes is second nature to him now as he has spent more than half his life with the disease. Regardless of what he was dealing with, Jakob said he has always had a strong support system.
