A proposal for library space in the new Northern Community Centre building has been rejected, but city and library officials are still quietly looking for a way to make it happen
City council has turned down a proposal to put a library micro-branch in the Northern Community Centre expansion, but there's still a faint glimmer of hope for a library presence in the new twin-pad arena building.
ADSB proposed paying $45,000 plus HST each year for the four upstairs rooms, with an additional $3,500 plus HST annual flat fee for utility costs. The library board's unsuccessful proposal offered just one dollar a year for space in the still-under-construction building intended to replace the old W.J. McMeeken Centre.
"We will pursue any opportunity to offer service there or elsewhere in the community, but political will is needed," added Wayne Greco, chair of the local library board.
