Feb. 20—In honor of Black History Month, the Merced Multicultural Arts Center (MAC) and Merced NAACP held a reception this weekend for a new exhibition honoring Black artists in the community…

“They’re all beautiful,” said Audrey Wiggins, who came to the exhibition, of the artwork on display. “They’re all my favorite. No favoritism here.” The MAC, as the multicultural arts center is called, also worked with the Merced PRIDE Center to host arts education projects and hosted gatherings to celebrate Black History Month leading up to the opening of the exhibition, according to MAC employees.
“We hope artists like Chavella have more opportunity to display their work and get their art out there,” Dennis said. “That’s the most important part. We have so many talented artists. How do we get them out and exposed in our community and beyond? So this is part of that.”
