Inside GMP's crackdown on anti-social behaviour as traders speak out on anti-social behaviour
A tired shopkeeper closes his store for the night. He’s faced a long day of abuse, theft and has even had rubbish thrown at his door.
“They’re disturbing me without any issue,” he added. “They wear balaclavas, throw garbage and run away. This includes using the StoreNet radio, which links store staff immediately to officers on patrol, allowing police to catch a number of shoplifters. “We bought the shop four months ago and they’ve been there a lot longer than that. They’re always here; they never leave. We’re scared to say anything in case there’s a riot.Chief inspector John Picton, from GMP’s Stockport district, said: “Anti-social behaviour is a blight on people’s lives and can cause issues in anywhere from town centres to rural beauty spots.
“We are always keen to hear from the public and would urge anyone with information about criminality to get in touch with us. You can do this by chatting to an officer on patrol, calling 101, or contacting Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
