A resurgence of COVID-19 cases across the state has led officials in six New Jersey towns to establish an indoor mask mandate in their communities.

South Orange Mayor Sheena Collum said in a statement last Tuesday that she signed the executive order in light of a concerning number of infections in the community.

In Montclair, masks will be required in all indoor public places through Jan. 31, according to Township Councilman Peter Yacobellis. Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla said it was time to “revert back to one of the tools that we know works – a face mask.” Paterson, the state’s third largest city, became the latest to implement a mask mandate on Tuesday, after Mayor Andre Sayegh signed an executive order to reinstitute a mask mandate in all buildings owned or operated by the City of Paterson.
