A 101-person SCOREGolf panel travelled to Canadian golf courses far and wide and judged them on nine criteria. We present the cream of the crop.
over the last three years. Also noteworthy near the top of the list was Toronto Golf Club cracking the top 10 for the first time. After a restoration several years ago, it continues to improve with ongoing tree removal.
There were two courses inside the top 20 that were not there in past lists. Calgary’s Mickelson National was eligible for the ranking for the first time after opening in 2020 and came in 20th. Meanwhile, Sagebrush near Merritt, B.C., reopened last summer after being shuttered for several years during ownership changes, lawsuits and permit problems. It was 10th in 2014 before closing and is 13th this year.
Other courses in the Top 100 for the first time are Taking Rock in Chase, B.C. , Waskesiu in Saskatchewan and the Red Course at Royal Montreal . Among those making big jumps from 2020 are Calgary Golf and Country Club , Port Carling Golf and Country Club , and Burlington Golf and Country Club . While courses have always needed 10 ratings in the scoring system to be eligible for the Top 100, this year SCOREGolf’s inclusion policy changed, which explains the absence of one longtime top-10 course.
“As golf continues to shed its reputation as a sport of exclusion, SCOREGolf has made the decision to disqualify any clubs that are not gender inclusive in their membership policies from eligibility for the Top 100,” said Jordan Bitove, publisher of
