What to expect from Therese Coffey's NHS plan, from faster GP appointments to extra staff 👉 Explained by emsferg

Government officials have estimated 1.2 million appointments each year can be handled by other surgery staff.

Patients will be told their place in the queue and maybe asked a few simple questions or offered information about practice opening times while waiting.Ms Coffey will outline plans to publish data so patients can assess how their GP practice is performing compared to other local surgeries. It said: “These measures will not come close to ensuring patients who need to be seen can be within the timescales set out. Also, they will have minimal impact on fixing the current problems that general practice is facing over the winter and could compromise continuity of care for those who need it.”who said Ms Coffey should have talked to its member GPs on the front line to understand the challenges before “lumbering a struggling service with more expectations”.
