Canada can do little to help Germany this winter without the Russian oil and gas it relies on, Justin Trudeau said before a visit by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. 'If we’re being entirely honest, there’s not a whole lot we can do in the very short term.'
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Olaf Scholz, chancellor of Germany, take a stroll at the G7 Summit in Schloss Elmau in Germany on June 27, 2022.
Canada can do little to help Germany get through the winter without the supply of Russian oil and gas its citizens and economy usually relies on, Justin Trudeau said ahead of a visit by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. “Canada has taken steps to help. We have moved forward in increasing the supply and the output of oil and gas in this country,” the prime minister said during a visit to Les Îles-de-la-Madeleine, Que., on Friday. “But if we’re being entirely honest, there’s not a whole lot we can do in the very short term to help with this coming winter’s challenges.
“We can put more oil and natural gas into the global supply, which has a cascading impact that helps.”
