I admit, I thought, Well, at least I’m not in as much immediate danger as someone who lives in Texas or Tennessee. You talk about telling your pro-choice mother about the abortion only when you started working on the show. Why is abortion still so hard to talk about? I grew up with a mother who had worked at Planned Parenthood and still didn’t tell her I had had an abortion in my 20s until over a decade later when I was planning to write about it.
