UWC Professor Matthew Ocran says the country’s economy has been stagnating in the past decade and, in order to reform it, there must be structural reforms like those proposed by radical economic transformation proponents.

Cape Town - While those who are benefiting from the current structure of the country’s economy are opposed to the implementation of radical economic transformation policies, an economics professor says there is a need for the policy to be implemented.

Ocran was speaking during a webinar on radical economic transformation and post Covid-19 hosted by the Cape Argus. "There has been a decline, consistently of growth; growth has been very weak to the extent that in the last two years we have had recessions now and again. "We cannot continue on the same path that we have been running over the past decade. For me, that is a motivation for radical economic transformation and if one looks at the economy, it becomes very clear that indeed this is the time to do something about the economy."
