“I have to keep reminding folks that there are some very well-endorsed, well-experienced folks involved in the planning,” Trimper told The Telegram this week. Most of the transient population are Indigenous people who camp on the town’s outskirts even as the weather gets colder. In the past few years, a number have died in frigid temperatures, including two last year who were only steps away from available shelter.“There is no question about it, there has been tremendous progress in the co-ordination and the bringing together.
'It’s clear the issue is not going away and that a properly designed , modelled after other entities, not just in the province but across the country, is needed here.'“Many folks are not ready to spend a night in a facility, but if they’re looking for a shower or a warm meal, or some companionship, that’s available to them, through to others who may want to start speaking with a counsellor, maybe having a locker they can put some of their belongings in,” he said.
