Orlando Pirates first team coach Mandla Ncikazi has been waxing lyrical about the club’s star player Thembinkosi Lorch, who is slowly getting back to his best for the Buccaneers.Despite initially being a doubt for Pirates’ Nedbank Cup encounter against AmaZulu, following his exploits in the DStv Compact Cup, Lorch enjoyed a full 90-minute appearance as Pirates advanced to the last 16 of the competition thanks to a 1-0 win over Usuthu.
The 28-year-old, who has been struggling with a host of injuries over the last season, has been racking up the appearances in recent times and has left an impression on Ncikazi who has started to see his influence in the Bucs dressing room. “Lorch is a top player and when I arrived here, Lorch was injured [so] I am only seeing him now after the injury. You can see that he is developing and getting better with each game, that is why we are giving him more minutes in each match,” Ncikazi told journalists. “Lorch is a game-decider. Even the training match that we played. Players have so much confidence that the game is played around him.
“The history is behind him. He is one of those special players that every team would love to have and we are expecting a lot from him,” he said.The former PSL Player of the Year has featured in Pirates’ last seven matches after missing out on the first 13 games of the campaign. He has registered two assists and is yet to get onto the scoresheet for the Buccaneers.
