An analysis of 2 million flights at three airports San Antonians fly through shows cancellations and delays have gotten worse since the pandemic.

Hover over a square below to see more.The Express-News developed a"health index" for each airport to gauge the severity of flight disruptions. The index assigned a score of 1 to 5, with 1 representing the least severe situation, for the number of delays and cancellations for each airport.

DFW offers significantly more flights than both San Antonio International and Austin-Bergstrom. Since 2018, DFW averaged 25,500 monthly scheduled flights compared to 5,500 and 3,100 for Austin-Bergstrom and San Antonio International, respectively. When comparing pre-pandemic figures to 2022, there has been a surge in severe disruptions at each airport. For instance, the number of severely disrupted days at San Antonio International nearly doubled from 2019 to 2022 – the airport had 46 days of severe disruptions in 2019 and 88 days in 2022. At Austin-Bergstrom, the number of severely disrupted days jumped from 44 to 118 over the same time frame.

Frontier Airlines had some of the highest delay rates at all three airports included in the Express-News analysis, but beyond that the results were mixed.
