The young Canadian national team star is working his way to elite status in European soccer and will suit up for Canada as his way of saying “thank you” to the nation he calls home.
For many players heading to the World Cup, playing for their countries was a destiny. For Jonathan David, it was a matter of choice.
“The country welcomed my family and gave us a chance at a better life. It’s kind of my way to give back to the country and to say thank you,” DavidDavid also told the newspaper that while Canada will automatically play in the, it meant much more for him and his teammates to put in work and earn a qualification to Qatar.
“He has a real opportunity at this World Cup to cement his status as a world elite,” the coach recently told the Star’s Bruce Arthur, noting David’s ability to stretch his game and grow with the circumstances.
