Opinion: The wave that Tony Abbott rode all the way to the top has crashed | Peter_Fitz
Thank you, thank you all! Great to be back, and I look forward to the year ahead despite the fact that I suspect it will be a notably turbulent for our nation, as we begin the long overdue transition to greening the economy. There will be screams, there will be outrage, there will be many tears but my pound to your peanut says this is the summer where the broad mass of Australians got it, that climate change is real, that we have to act.
A decade ago Tony Abbott effectively rose to the prime ministership by riding the wave of denialism. In this decade that position is so ludicrous that all politicians, commentators and institutions that maintain it will be dumped by that wave. Those who prosper will be those who accept the science, and show leadership in working out how to deal with it.Bravo, newly anointed Australian of the Year,a worthy choice for his work of decades in trying to fight blindness among the world's poor.
On the latter issue, I have no clue, though am happy to accept him at his word. And either way it makes zero difference as to the worth of his book. On the matter of the book I say this strongly: NO ONE who has actually READ the book, can say he is a fantasist. For when you actually read it, the penny drops.
