Warning: SPOILERS ahead for The Walking Dead series finaleThe Walking Dead fans celebrate the massive return of Rick Grimes and Michonne during the flagship show's series finale. Acting as the protagonist of the series until season 9, Rick was whisked away in a helicopter by the CRM in season 9 episode 5 after being injured blowing up a bridge to ensure a Walker horde didn't overrun the core survivors' communities.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY The reappearance of Rick and Michonne in The Walking Dead series finale garnered lots of excitement from fans of the franchise. Viewers were exhilarated to know that two major anchors of the franchise were still alive, and were incredibly happy to see them one final time on the flagship series.

Even without tangible news about Rick and Michonne's spinoff, the series finale of The Walking Dead opens the door for their new show and what it could be about. Michonne is seen on her own, no longer with the large group of thousands that she had been traveling with last time audiences saw her. She sports a new outfit and has acquired a horse as well, indicating she was with a group at some point but has since separated from them.

As for Rick's scene, viewers are treated to a flashback prior to the events of season 10 episode 13, when Michonne found the ship housing Rick's boots and supplies, indicating he was still alive. Rick is seen at the edge of an embankment wearing a CRM jacket, a descending helicopter pilot requesting he surrender. It appears that Rick had been causing trouble for the CRM, but their request that he surrender also indicates they need him alive for one reason or another.
