Grealish, as he has said publicly many times now, is desperate to score and assist more. Guardiola wants him to be more aggressive in that sense, too, but the manager’s public stance is not a front: he is constantly telling Grealish that he excels in other areas statistically. in midweek, when neither he nor many of his team-mates excelled for the most part, was that the winger did not have the right support.
So Grealish genuinely does do lots of things that are valuable to Guardiola, and if he does underperform it’s not necessarily his fault.
