The founders of Superbalist, one of South Africa’s biggest online fashion retailers, have undertaken a similar venture already putting pressure on their former business.
Claude Hanan and Luke Jedeikin are the minds behind South Africa’s biggest home-grown online clothing retailer, Superbalist. They recently joined TFG and founded Bash, which isHaving known each other since high school, the two started their e-commerce journey when they formed CityMob in 2010.
The website was incredibly simplistic, with Jedeikin pointing out that it was a two-page PHP site they bought from a developer in India for $500. However, this was a significant step in the Superbalist journey as the two reached out to brothers Justin and Ryan Drennan, co-founders of WantItAll, to help them with their logistical issues.
This was followed by another due diligence, this time by a British firm, which took just as long. The two still had no luck and faced increased competition from Zando and Spree, which had major financial backing. The two took a sabbatical as South Africa entered its first Covid-19 lockdown. The Foschini Group approached them in 2021.
