Popovich complained after that one that the Spurs played well for just a quarter and half and were not “mentally prepared” against a Kings team that was playing the second of a back-to-back and faced travel issues in getting from New Orleans to San Antonio. Dejounte Murray scored 10 of his 25 points in the fourth quarter to go along with 10 assists and eight rebounds. As well as Johnson played, he struggled in the final frame, going scoreless and missing all five of his shots from the floor, including all four attempts from beyond the arc.
“He’s just got to be in those situations,” Popovich said. “He might make a mistake here or there, but everyone makes mistakes. There is nobody on the team who doesn’t make mistakes, including me. So, every minute he is on the court it really elevates his ability to really be a good player in this league.”
After getting benched in the second quarter in the loss to Sacramento for some defensive lapses, Johnson bounced back strong on both ends of the court.
