After several weeks spent flopping around gape-mouthed and gasping for air like a trout on a dock, the House GOP has finally managed to name a Speaker of the House. They nominated and then rejected far-right weirdo Steve Scalise. They nominated, then rejected even further right-wing Twitter/X troll Jim Jordan, repeatedly.
In my heart of hearts, I believe the majority of the House GOP voted for Johnson without knowing who he was. He hasn’t done anything of note during his four terms, besides vocally backing Trump’s lies about a stolen election, but he looks the part.
