After COVID lockdowns threw a national tour into disarray, the Bangarra Dance Company is in Howard Springs so they can keep the show on the road.

Socially distanced and on a tiny balcony tacked on to a donga is not ideal conditions for an internationally acclaimed contemporary dance troupe halfway through a national tour.As part of a plan improvised as lockdowns were called around the country, the troupe from Bangarra Dance Theatre is holed up in the tropical heat at Darwin's Howard Springs quarantine facility.There, they are continuing preparations to tour the new show SandSong: Stories from the Great Sandy Desert.

"The dancers have to keep their bodies in shape and keep their spirits up mentally … because they are on stage as soon as we get out of here." Dancer Kassidy Waters says the group is happy to go through quarantine to share the show with audiences.
