Imagine a world where every digital touchpoint from your morning news app to your online banking portal is a potential backdoor for intruders. That’s today’s reality., which analyzed trillions of data points, shines a bit more light on what’s happening to APIs when you’re not looking. The more you know about this threat, the better able you will be to defend against it.According to the report, nearly one-third of all web attacks in 2023 targeted APIs.

API attacks are not just increasing in frequency, but also in magnitude. Attacks range from phishing scams and API key access to unsecured data resources and SQL injections delivered via unprotected APIs.It's not uncommon for API vulnerabilities to hide in plain view. In the case of a company offering restaurant inventory management software, for example, strange alerts were being received by the company, and the timestamps seemed to indicate cases of 'impossible time travel.

This last question is crucial because even properly written APIs can be vulnerable to abuse. And, while the techniques favored by attackers are generally 'tried-and-true' methods that are easy to measure, they are hard to predict.So, how can you protect your enterprise and your customers from rampant API abuse?
