We wrote with three or four different producers and writers, and some of them would leave the session to go to a march. It was all around us.

“We’re trying to make a modern record,” says Sheehan. “As little sponges, we are taking everything in and we want to sit amongst our peers.”The peers aren't only the biggies, the Ed Sheerans and Drakes of the world. They're also aware of new acts nipping at their heels, like compatriot Niall Horan who's embarking on his first solo tour at the same time as“I think he’ll find out what he’s made of, that’s what I think,” says O’Donoghue.
