; even superhero movies. Should “Yellowjackets” be added to this vast ward, or does it have something new to tell us about the form?
The second show within “Yellowjackets” is a suburban thriller, a genre whose premise is that something dark and desperate lies beneath the surface of the American middle class. This is the genius of “Yellowjackets”: it is not one show but two. One is a survival drama, with elements of horror and coming of age; the other is a suburban thriller, a few highway stops short of a soap.
