The National Stadium is the Ibrox side's preferred choice for a short term fix but there are hurdles to be cleared.
Rangers will have to shell out for a new lay and play pitch at “not inconsiderable cost” if they are to be ready to play at Hampden against Motherwell on August 10 - and could be forced to compensate Queen’s Park if Ibrox is still out of commission beyond September.
They add that Rangers would prefer to play all games at Hampden - they have Scottish Premiership fixtures and crucial Champions League qualifiers in the month of August - rather than “striking deals to use two different venues and then flitting between them”. That could be done using the ‘lay and play’ pitch technology to ensure a quick turnaround. Wembley used the same method 12 months ago with a Harry Styles concert taking place just three weeks before the FA Community Shield. Wembley Stadium’s Grounds Manager Karl Standley said: “Previously, it might have taken up to five weeks after a concert to get a pitch ready for a football fixture. Now, thanks to the new technology, this can be done in just five days.
