Starting as the gruff and cold footballer in season one, Roy's arc is harder to track than many other characters, as he still carries much of the same demeanor. Trent Crimm's Book Foreword Shows How Much Roy Has Changed In Ted Lasso A key detail at the bottom of Trent's book cover is the foreword from Roy Kent. Trent Crimm's arrival at AFC Richmond was initially met with much disdain. The tension between athletes and journalists is always prevalent, but this case was particularly personal for Roy, who had been monstrously critiqued by Trent in his rookie season when he was still a teenager.
Despite still having difficulty vocalizing his feelings, Roy has come a long way, even being willing to express his pride and his friendship to Jamie in a healthy way. He also accepts Keeley's friendship after she declines both him and Jamie, understanding that she is independent and wants to make a name for herself first. The clearest representation of his growth is shown in the finale montage, as Roy is about to begin his journey into therapy.
