We’ve witnessed an incredible rise in the rate of rude behavior and incivility seen throughout the interview and hiring process.

Things dramatically took a turn after the stock market meltdown—in the wake of the financial crisis. Unemployment rocketed to record-high levels. People had their homes foreclosed. Jobs were scarce. There was an overhanging fear of how things would play out in the future. Over 10 years later, a large portion of the American population has still not fully recovered. However, a small group of people immensely profited over the last decade.

They say that, in corporations, the tone is set from the top down. The tone in Washington set by our leaders is one of rancor, ill-will, constant bickering and their main interests lie in scoring points by dunking on their opponents rather than trying to make the country better for us all. They’ve also divided Americans into warring tribes, pitting different groups against each other instead of uniting everyone.

Corporate executives don't seem the least bit bothered that they’re forcing job seekers to spend hours working on an antiquated application that—once submitted—gets ignored and is lost into the black hole of corporate technology—the applicant tracking system. Résumé submittals routinely go unacknowledged.
