With the official mourning period for the Queen now over, the royal family is back at work—and putting on a united front.
—with William issuing a statement paying tribute to the late monarch. “My grandmother famously said that grief was the price we pay for love,” he wrote in a widely shared message. “All of the sadness we will feel in the coming weeks will be testament to the love we felt for our extraordinary Queen. I will honor her memory by supporting my father, the King, in every way I can.”
Charles, meanwhile, used his first speech as King to announce that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would henceforth be known as the Prince and Princess of Wales, with William inheriting both his Scottish titles and the Duchy of Cornwall. “With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the center ground where vital help can be given,” he told the British public.
