THE OPEN: Corey Conners finished with 2023 majors, focus turns to PGA Tour playoffs
“Pretty sour about today not going as I envisioned,” Conners told Postmedia after shooting his worst round of the week, a five-over par 76. “But I have to be ready for anything over here.”The Sunday weather forecast didn’t call for heavy rain until late afternoon, but the Canadian found himself trudging through a wall of rain for 18 holes at the Open Championship.
“I love the golf course, I think it’s really challenging from tee-to-green,” Conners said of Hoylake. “It’s a cool place. I definitely made some mistakes the first few days and dug myself a bit of a hole, but still some positives.” “I pounded a drive and I still had 330 yards in, but basically I was laying up on 18 today regardless,” he said. “That was my strategy. I laid up with a 6-iron and still had 150 yards in. It was playing long.”
