Star Wars has told differing stories on how the Jedi Temple on Coruscant came to be, and its true origins could reshape the entire franchise.
The Jedi Temple on Coruscant is one of Star Wars' most iconic landmarks, a beacon of hope and justice for a millennium. Star Wars Timelines confirmed the Jedi Temple was erected in 1,032 BBY, approximately a thousand years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. When Palpatine executed Order 66, Darth Vader and the 501st Legion stormed the temple and wiped the Jedi out - making way for the Emperor to claim the holy site as his new home.

Michael Koge's short story "What A Makes Jedi" in the anthology Stories of Jedi & Sith suggests that the foundation of the Jedi Temple is laid directly on top of one of Coruscant's mountains. This occurred long before the rest of the cityscape was established, with the temple itself being the only mountain in that district of the planet.
