This is the place to go for a picturesque autumn walk - and it's home to a hidden gem which animal-lovers will adore
With crunchy leaves underfoot, a slight chill in the air and a beautiful palette of colours, you can’t beat a country walk in the autumn. If you’re looking for that perfect autumnal atmosphere then it's best to venture into the woods.
Although it may seem like an area untouched by people for centuries, Wilderswood was actually much smaller than it is today, mainly confined to the area of Wilder’s Clough. Most of the area was once bare moorland with just a few clumps of trees, while the area would have been busy with coal mining activities.
There are various paths you can follow through the trees at Wilderswood, allowing you to take in the gorgeous autumn scenery. But if you fancy an autumn walk with a twist, then Wilderswood has another card up its sleeve.
