Peter Jackson's Oscar-winning trilogy returns for one weekend only in their extended editions.
Pack the lembas bread and gather up your fellowship, we’re going back to Middle-earth. Warner Bros . is releasing the extended editions of Peter Jackson ’s Lord of the Rings trilogy in theaters for one weekend only this June, and it’s the first time the re-releases will feature their remastered 4K versions from 2020. The screenings take place on June 8, 9, and 10 with one movie a day: The Fellowship of the Ring on Saturday, The Two Towers on Sunday, and Return of the King on Monday.
When that happened, I did an all-day marathon leading up to the opening starting with the Fellowship extended edition, followed by the Two Towers extended edition, right into a midnight screening of Return of the King. Yes, it was a very late night. And then I locked my keys in my car on the way out at 4 a.m. but that’s another story. But that won’t be happening to me this year.
