The February 2023 shooting of rapper AKA and Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoane led to the closure of Wish restaurant in Durban, a popular hotspot where AKA enjoyed his last meal and haircut. The restaurant, co-owned by DJ Benny Maverick, closed permanently after a year of struggling to recover from the tragic incident.

The February 2023 shooting of rapper Kiernan ‘ AKA ’ Forbes and Tebello ‘Tibz’ Motsoane left a void in South Africa, not only as a loss of musical talent and a celebrated chef but also by signaling the end of Wish restaurant. Tucked away on Florida Road, Wish, co-owned by popular Durban musician, events manager, and businessman DJ Benny Maverick (real name Philani Kweyama), was a vibrant hub in Durban 's nightlife scene.

It was the very place where AKA enjoyed his last meal and haircut before being tragically gunned down.In the aftermath of the shooting, management of Wish on Florida Road, which opened its doors in 2019, took to social media expressing their profound condolences to the families of Forbes and Motsoane. They announced the closure of the restaurant until further notice. A year later on April 10th, 2023, the restaurant made the painful announcement of its permanent closure, marking the date with 'The Last Supper'. The directors cited a severe downturn in business directly linked to the shooting, stating that the irreparable damage to the brand's equity left them with no other option. The restaurant extended its heartfelt gratitude to the city of Durban for its unwavering support, as well as to the numerous brands and suppliers who had been an integral part of the Wish on Florida family since its inception. Kweyama, the co-owner, marked the anniversary of the shooting incident by announcing on Instagram the opening of a new Florida Road restaurant on July 6, 2024, called Maison. The restaurant also hosted a variety of events, including live music performances and seasonal celebrations for special occasions like Valentine's Day.
