TheLastOfUs star Merle Dandridge will play Marlene in the upcoming HBO show. Since she also voice acted the same character in the games, she addresses how different it was to play Marlene in the show compared to the game counterpart.

Merle Dandridge, who plays Marlene in Naughty Dog's The Last of Us and in HBO's adaptation, explains the differences acting in a game and in live-action. While Marlene doesn't often appear in The Last of Us, she is an essential character who kicks everything into action by connecting Joel with Ellie .

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Having played Marlene a decade before HBO's The Last of Us, Dandridge has grown considerably over the past few years and has taken up several live-action roles. The news that Marlene was confirmed for The Last of Us was no great shock, but it was a welcome surprise when it was announced that Dandridge would be taking up the role, even if she is approaching it differently.

"There was a lot of building on what I had done because the core knowledge of who this person stays the same, but how she works and acts and interacts with all of that might adjust a little bit, especially working opposite people looking at those characters through a new lens. Bella and Pedro’s Ellie and Joel have a different twinkle than Ashley [Johnson] and Troy [Baker].

The majority of the characters are directly adapted from the game, with Nick Offerman playing the bitter Bill, Anna Torv playing Tess, Gabriel Luna appearing as Tommy, Storm Reid playing Ellie's childhood love interest, Riley, and Nico Parker playing Joel's daughter, Sarah. The show will involve a nationwide journey as Ellie and Joel work to get themselves to a hospital so Ellie can submit to the Firefly testing.

What To Expect From The Last Of Us Because The Last of Us is set 20 years after a global apocalypse, it will not be a typical zombie show that follows the immediate aftermath of Armageddon. Instead, the show explores the generational differences between a man born before the devastation and a girl raised entirely in the remnants of a civilization that the world has to string together. The humans will be the story's emotional core, and they will also be the project's villains.
