It is nearly five years since a project began to boost numbers of the bird in the Moffat hills.
Despite the loss of one of the young golden eagles, more were brought from the Highlands and by August 2021 eight more chicks had been successfully moved south.
NatureScot chief executive Francesca Osowska described the scheme as a "vital part" of efforts to reverse biodiversity loss and combat the climate emergency.By last year the golden eagle population was reckoned to be at its highest level in 300 years Among the latest additions were seven birds caught in the Outer Hebrides and then transported and released.
