It's the perfect place to spend a sunny summer's day
Nestled in the Goyt Valley is a ‘hidden gem’ beauty spot with beautiful lakes, gardens and woodland which is a perfect place to spend a sunny day. But there’s a catch - it’s only open one day a month.
The 'lakes' themselves were originally created as millponds to power the Mellor Mill, built by industrialist Samuel Oldknow. Following a fire in 1892 the mill was destroyed and the millponds were transformed into a pleasure resort in the late 19th century, named after the 16th century Roman Bridge which crosses the River Goyt nearby.Edwardian visitors would go boating on the lake and take part in tea dances and it quickly became a popular spot for leisure and pleasure.
