An Oscar-winning movie from 2 legendary actors.

Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The greatest male and female movie stars of all time in the American Film Institute’s 1999 poll only collaborated on one film during their legendary careers – and the classic ultimately yielded a well-deserved Oscar win.

With a subsequent ceremony hosted by child star Shirley Temple in 1999, who also earned a spot on the female movie stars list, AFI polled members of the filmmaking community about the greatest 50 movie stars of all time, including 25 female actresses and 25 male actors.

In addition to being named the greatest male movie star, Humphrey Bogart would find himself awarded on numerous occasions in AFI’s 100 Years list series. The actor was featured several times on AFI’s greatest movies and quotes lists, adding further evidence to his well-deserved top place on the organization’s screen legends list. Meanwhile, Katharine Hepburn still holds the record for most Oscar wins of any actor in history, having won four Best Actress awards out of 12 nominations.

Not only was John Huston’s The African Queen a box office success, but the movie was also a hit at the Oscars. Despite being voted the greatest classic Hollywood screen legend, Humphrey Bogart was only nominated for the Best Actor Oscar on three separate occasions; in 1944 for Casablanca, 1952 for The African Queen, and 1955 for The Caine Mutiny. Of these nominations, Humphrey Bogart would only win for his role in The African Queen.

Why Humphrey Bogart & Katharine Hepburn Didn't Collaborate Again After The African Queen Katharine Hepburn and Humphrey Bogart’s Oscar-winning collaboration happened a bit too far into the latter’s career to guarantee a reunion. Legendary film actor Humphrey Bogart passed away at the age of 57 in 1957, only six years after The African Queen. The actor starred in 10 more films between 1952 and 1956 after The African Queen, with Hepburn only appearing in four movies during this time.
