The Flash reveals how fast he really is compared to Superman.
Summary SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT In DC Comics, FThe Flash is quite literally the “Fastest Man Alive,” with his blistering speed allowing him to run anywhere in the world in mere seconds, leaving both friends and foes alike in the dust. And in a comic series marking Barry Allen’s return to the superhero fold after twenty long years of being away, a single line of dialogue sees Flash redefine his speed...
Barry's death in the seminal Crisis on Infinite Earths event was a development that lasted for decades Until a 2009 miniseries, tasked with reintroducing Barry’s Flash while updating him for a new generation of readers, gave him a second chance at life. And it’s here, after Barry decides to sacrifice himself a second time to save the ones he loves, that his true speed is revealed.
Running faster and faster, Barry tells Superman there’s no way he can stop him, with Supes confidently replying, “I’ve raced you before, Barry. I even won some of those races”. Only to have Flash shatter Superman’s perception of his speed by saying, “Those were for charity, Clark,” leaving him behind in a sonic boom of speed a second later.
Flash Slowed Himself Down During Charity Races By retconning every Flash vs. Superman race with a single sentence, this moment establishes that Flash has always held back and limited himself when racing Superman, telling readers that he was, is, and always will be faster than anyone in the DC Universe, regardless of how hard Clark or any other hero pushes themselves.
So while the debate of who is faster, Flash or Superman, might still rage on in nerd circles, this specific line of dialogue ensures that Barry and fans alike shouldn’t need to have that conversation ever again. Of course, this doesn’t stop Flash from being the swell guy he is and continuing to hold back whenever he lines up for a race. At least when it comes to crime-fighting, he can hit his absolute limits whenever he pleases.
