The Flash will include two versions of Batman but only one actor for Barry Allen, giving the film too strong of a focus on Batman.
The upcoming DC film The Flash will reportedly not include an appearance by Grant Gustin, proving that, unfortunately, the multiversal film has a stronger focus on Batman than its titular hero. The Flash will loosely adapt the 2011 comic storyline Flashpoint, having Barry Allen travel through time and the multiverse after an attempt to retroactively save his mother’s life goes awry.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT While Batman is one of the most popular DC characters of all time, with numerous live-action adaptations on film and TV, The Flash has had far less exposure in the realm of live-action superhero properties, despite his rich comic book lore. The Flash’s greatest success in live-action was Grant Gustin’s portrayal in the 2014 Arrowverse series The Flash, which is set to end after almost a decade-long run.
The Flash Honors Batman's Movie Legacy Far More Than Barry Allen's The Flash has had very few live-action appearances compared to Batman, with the hero debuting in the Legends of the Superheroes TV specials and having several guest appearances in Smallville. The Flash’s first live-action starring role was in 1990’s The Flash. The series, unfortunately, only lasted a single season, but the Arrowverse’s The Flash was far more successful, with the series set to end with its ninth season.
With both versions of The Flash canonically having met, it is odd that Gustin will not appear in the DCEU’s The Flash movie, even in a brief cameo. Considering the film’s multiversal premise and the popularity of Gustin’s iteration, perhaps the film should have found a way for the two heroes to meet once more. Instead, The Flash will be the finale of the old DCEU that simultaneously honors the cinematic legacy of Batman.
